Demographics: Greece is “shrinking” – 10.3% reduction in births in 2022, according to ELSTAT data.

The country’s population appears significantly reduced, compared to 2011, according to the data of the 2021 Population Census announced by ELSTAT.

A further decrease of 10.3% was noted by births in Greece last year and amounted to 76,541 (39,558 boys and 36,983 girls) compared to 2021 which was 85,346 (43,998 boys and 41,348 girls). Births do not include stillbirths, which in 2022 amounted to 446, down 1.5% from 453 in 2021.
